The Magic Board — Redefining Life Management Through AI-Driven XR Design

Project Overview:
The Magic Board is an extended reality (XR) solution designed to streamline daily life management through a hands-free, voice-activated interface. By integrating AI, voice commands, and mobile app control, the system transforms a traditional whiteboard into an intuitive, interactive tool that adapts to user needs in real time. Targeting tech-savvy professionals like Xylo, a 34-year-old nonbinary XR designer in Portland, the Magic Board bridges the gap between tactile, visual planning and advanced digital organization.

Challenge:
Existing life management tools — from physical whiteboards to digital apps — lack the intuitive, voice-driven functionality that enables seamless, hands-free updates. The challenge was to design an XR system that:

• Integrates AI and voice commands to facilitate natural, real-time scheduling and task management.

• Retains the tactile familiarity of a whiteboard while elevating it with AI-enhanced interactivity.

• Provides an accessible, visually rich interface that adapts to diverse user needs and workflows.

Approach:

• User Research: Conducted targeted research to identify common pain points in organizational tools, focusing on the needs of XR designers who require adaptive, hands-free solutions.

• Concept Development: Developed the concept of a dual-sided, mobile whiteboard — The Magic Board — that combines the familiarity of a physical board with AI-enhanced functionality.

• Feature Integration: Designed an AI-driven interface powered by a conversational assistant (e.g., ChatGPT), capable of:

  • Generating and updating schedules, graphs, and charts based on spoken commands.

  • Proactively suggesting optimizations, asking clarifying questions, and engaging in adaptive dialogue.

  • Functioning as a morning assistant, displaying the day’s plan and providing personalized audio cues to set a productive tone.

• Companion App Development: Created a mobile app for remote interaction, enabling real-time updates, notifications, and on-the-go adjustments, ensuring a cohesive user experience across devices.
