Project Overview
The XR Throne is a next-generation augmented reality (AR) wellness interface that blends immersive tech with African ancestral knowledge, somatic design, and ethically sourced materials. Developed as an AI-enhanced biofeedback experience, the XR Throne offers guided meditations, healing frequencies, and sensory alignment rituals through a spatial throne interface and mobile app—positioning wellness as both a cultural and technological practice.
Problem
Mainstream wellness technologies often disregard the cultural, ecological, and sensory roots of healing practices. The challenge was to design a wellness product that:
Centers African knowledge systems while leveraging advanced tech like AR, biosensors, and voice AI.
Demonstrates ethical technology use—grounded in cultural stewardship, material traceability, and ecological responsibility.
Delivers a cohesive, multi-sensory experience that feels both sacred and intelligent, blending ancient tradition with futuristic design.
Solution Highlights
XR Throne Interface: Designed an immersive physical throne enhanced with spatial audio, biometrics, and AR overlays that respond to user input and intention.
Mobile Companion App: Developed a concept app with guided meditation flows, sound healing libraries, biosensor syncing, and visual pattern recognition tied to ancestral frequencies.
Culturally Rooted System Design: Integrated color, form, language, and storytelling grounded in African cosmologies—translated into a visual language system and material UX guide.
AI-Powered Customization: Prototyped app logic that adapts rituals based on user data, enabling responsive care tailored to emotional, physical, and spiritual needs.
Research & Design Process
Conducted cultural audits and literature reviews on African healing traditions, bioresonance frequencies, and material symbolism.
Audited ethical sourcing guidelines and sustainable material libraries for integration into physical throne concept.
Mapped user journeys across digital and physical touchpoints to prototype a cohesive experience ecosystem.
Created visual brand and interface systems rooted in Afrofuturism and cultural aesthetics that reinforce trust and meaning.
Outcomes & Impact
Reframed the XR Throne as a culturally transformative wellness system, challenging extractive tech norms by centering Black and Indigenous innovation.
Showcased the potential of tech as a ritual object—capable of healing, cultural transmission, and embodied presence.
Positioned the project at the intersection of AI, wellness, and design justice, offering a replicable model for inclusive, sensory-forward experience design.
