Advaitic Songs — A Visual Odyssey in Sound and Space
Overview:
This conceptual redesign reimagines the visual identity of OM’s album Advaitic Songs as a layered, immersive wayfinding experience. Drawing inspiration from Hindu yantras, sacred geometry, and the meditative essence of OM’s music, the design transforms the album cover into a spiritual map, inviting listeners to explore ambient soundscapes through symbolic landscapes. The project includes a comprehensive branding suite encompassing vinyl and CD packaging, streaming platform graphics, and promotional assets.
Challenge:
OM’s original album art employs Orthodox iconography and minimal edits of existing spiritual artwork, creating a visual disconnect between the band’s deeply contemplative sound and its visual branding. The challenge was to:
Develop a conceptually rich visual narrative that aligns with OM’s drone-heavy, mystical soundscape while maintaining a sense of reverence.
Reinterpret the band’s visual identity in a way that honors their contemplative, trance-like aesthetic without relying on conventional religious imagery.
Create an immersive, tactile experience that acts as both a visual and metaphysical journey for the listener, reflecting the sonic pilgrimage of the album.
Approach:
Research & Concept Development: Conducted in-depth research on Hindu yantras, sacred geometry, and the meditative impact of drone music, exploring how visual structures can serve as metaphysical maps.
Mapping the Soundscape: Translated the album’s five tracks into symbolic, location-inspired compositions, connecting each song to a geographical or spiritual site such as Varanasi, Lalibela, and Mount Sinai.
Design System Development: Developed a visual identity that merges cosmic geometry, topographical maps, and embossed metallic textures, creating a tangible, tactile experience that mirrors the hypnotic quality of OM’s sound.
AI Integration: Leveraged AI-generated 3D renderings and digital topographies to blend physical and digital landscapes, producing a richly textured visual system that feels simultaneously ancient and futuristic.
