2024 Afrofuturism Calendar — Celebrating Black Joy, Ancestral Wisdom & Futuristic Imagination

Project Overview:
Conceptualized, designed, and produced a limited-edition calendar that merges Afrofuturism, contemporary art, ai and ancestral storytelling. Each month features original artwork depicting vibrant, dreamlike scenes that bridge ancestral African traditions with speculative, futuristic aesthetics. The objective was to create a visually compelling piece that serves both as a functional calendar and a celebration of Black culture, resilience, and visionary futures.

Challenge:
Design a cohesive collection of visual narratives that reflect Afrofuturist themes while maintaining a unified aesthetic across all 12 months. The challenge extended to integrating diverse depictions of Black joy, intergenerational connections, and utopian visions without compromising the calendar’s practicality and functionality.

Approach:

• Research & Concept Development: Studied Afrofuturist art, literature, and design to build a foundational visual language that honors both ancestral symbolism and futuristic visions.

• Visual Direction: Developed moodboards and styleframes to establish a bold, otherworldly aesthetic characterized by iridescent tones, ethereal landscapes, and cosmic iconography.

• Execution: Crafted original digital illustrations and used AI tools to enhance visual depth and complexity, combining 3D-rendered elements with hand-drawn motifs to evoke a multidimensional, dreamlike atmosphere.

Deliverables:

• 12-month calendar featuring custom artwork for each month, highlighting themes of community, cultural pride, and Black futurism.

• Promotional assets for social media, print, and digital marketing campaigns.

• Merchandising strategy, including calendar packaging and website visuals to drive sales and expand brand reach.

Impact & Outcomes:

• Successfully launched a calendar that functions as both a practical organizer and a cultural art piece, garnering positive feedback for its visually arresting, emotionally resonant design.

• Expanded brand visibility through targeted social media marketing, positioning the calendar as a compelling holiday gift that celebrates Black identity and visionary futures.
